Team 4 camp

Last week we went to camp at Cooper's Beach. We went fishing and lots of other things too. I enjoyed the water slide.       

 We made a collage of a sea creature for art.

Term 4 Basic Facts

We have been working on answering basic facts questions quickly and instantly.

I should be working on Stage 5. 

I have passed Stage 4.

I am now at Stage 5. I got 24 out of 60.

Pet Day

Today is our school pet Day. We made vaseline saucers using flower petals. Here is my saucer.

Great's and Grand's day 2019

Last Friday we had our Greats and grands. My Nana

and Karen come along. We did performances and dancing. We had a delicious morning tea and played games.

Handwriting

At the end of this term we did our handwriting sample we had to use our capital and lower case letters and write a sentence about our science fair.                     
What I could do better is make my work neat and tidy.

What I like about my handwriting is I form my letters correctly.

Garden to table

Today for Garden to Table I was in the kitchen. We made coleslaw using carrot and cabbage. Then we had a picnic on the field. 

Science fair

Yesterday we had our school science fair. My science investigation was about Lego bridges.

Musical Instruments

Team Awa made instruments using recycled
materials.

I made a drum using 3 strawberry jars,
I used 2 strawberry jam jar lids for cymbals
and a coffee box.

Koru Art

We made koru art with Whaea Rose by using foam cutout koru shapes and stamping them using ink onto a white piece of paper.
My koru represents my family.
I really like the koru and the birds in my art.

Balloon Hovercraft

B E G I N N I N G	TITLE	Balloon Hovercraft
	QUESTION	How does a hovercraft hover?
	HYPOTHESIS	I predict that it’s going to move.

M I D D L E	EQUIPMENT  AND MATERIALS:	You need a dvd, bottle cap and a balloon.
	PROCEDURE:	Step 1: Using a hot glue gun,glue the bottle cap over the cd hole. Step 2: Blow up a balloon. When it is fully inflated twist the end over.  The end of the bottle cap. Step 3: Stretch the balloon over the end of the bottle cap. Step 4: Open up the cap and place the cd on the surface. Step 5: Untwist balloon and let go.
	OBSERVATIONS/RESULTS:	It hoved across on the table like a lawnmower.

CONCLUSION:

The air from the balloon creates a cushion of moving air between the disc and the CD and reduced the friction so the disc moved freely across the table.

Bridge Building

We have been learning about forces and how they help shape the sort of bridges that we build.  

We learned that there are three main types of bridge design; beam, truss and suspension.  Using this knowledge we designed and built our own bridges.

Miss Fletcher set the challenge that our bridges had to be 30 cm long and strong enough to hold an object.

In my group there were Harry, Veon, Kyle and me.  We used ice cream sticks, cardboard, egg boxes to build our bridge.

Here is a photo of our truss bridge.  What I like best about our bridge is  that it is an awesome bridge.

Speech

For the last two weeks we have been working on writing speeches.
My topic was Fire trucks.
We had to present them in front of our class.
I think I was good and I made it to the finals.

Have you ever wondered why fire trucks are so important in our communities? A fire truck is a vehicle that holds firefighters, lots of water and has hoses, ladders and equipment for cutting cars. I believe that fire trucks are important and here is why.

Firstly Fire trucks attend car accidents, scrub fires and house fires. At car crashes fire trucks have to use lots of equipment. In the lockers there is jaws of life, hoses, portable pumps, axes, shovels and brooms. This equipment helps the firefighters cut people out of their cars if they are trapped and clean up all the mess on the road.

Secondly fire trucks save people’s lives. They use hoses, axes and portable pumps to help people. They attend medical calls and help the ambulance. The truck holds special equipment to help people who are very sick.

Finally fire trucks take firefighters to attend calls when the fire siren goes. Fire trucks rush to fire calls with their siren on and lights flashing to help the people in our community.

I think fire trucks are important for the people in our community. They help save people’s lives and property. One day I would like to be a fireman and drive the fire truck to save my community.

Volume and Capacity Maths

This week we used popcorn to learn about volume and capacity.

Maths Book

For maths this week we read a book called one is a snail,ten is a crab. We then worked in groups to create our own version. My book is called I is a worm,ten is an octopus and chicken. Here is my book. I hope you like it.

Moon Rover Landing

For science we made a Moon rover lander using only a paper cup, paper, cellotape and straws.  We were given the task of making our Moon rover land softly onto our Moon landscape so that our marsh-mellow astronauts did not fly out.

What I like best about my Moon rover is its landing because it landed very well.

What I needed to modify on my Moon lander rover was straws & paper cup & paper and a marsh-mellow.

One thing I learned about landing on the Moon was that it was like real life.

This we we have been doing makerspace STEAM. We got to choose activities. I made a fly from metal. I use a spring, some wire, some washers, googly eyes and screws. I also made an imovie about Living things at Ohaeawai School.

Bug Hotel

WE made a Bug Hotel. For our bug hotel we put bamboo, hay and newspaper in the bug hotel which is made in a pallet. We made a bug hotel so the good bugs can have a lovely place to live and they don't need to find a place to build with shelter.

Today we wrote poems about living things. We had to use an adjective, a noun and a verb in each sentence. Here is my poem.

Maths

For maths we have been working in mixed ability groups to solve problems. The focus has been solving word problems using place value. We have to select the correct the correct strategy to solve the problem. I have chosen two problems to show you how I work them out.
I find addition and subtraction using place value easy.

For my second problem I did it as a change unknown. So the actual amount of material was 21cm.

Hectors world

We have been watching Hector's World to learn how to be safe online.

Colour Poem

For writing we have been doing colour poems. We had to write a poem about our house colour. I am in the blue house so I wrote descriptive sentences about blue. Here is my poem.

Environmental writing

We sketched our bean plants that we grew in class. We then wrote words around the outside to describe the bean plant. We had to use these words to write a piece of descriptive writing. We then cut out our picture and glued it on to your writing. Here is my writing.

We have been learning how to sketch our facial features. We needed to put
them in the right place on our face. For our background we typed our full name
and learned to copy and paste down the page.
